MIL-STD-3020, DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE STANDARD PRACTICE: FIRE RESISTANCE OF U.S. NAVAL SURFACE SHIPS (7 NOV 2007)., This standard provides the fire resistance test method and acceptance criteria, following shock testing, for approval of N-Class and AN-Class divisions and their penetrations on U.S. Navy surface ships. The fire resistance test method described herein supersedes fire resistance test method requirements of Appendix A in MIL-PRF-32161, and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Naval Vessel Rules Part 1, Chapter 2, Section 1. This standard is applicable to fire resistant divisions constructed from steel, aluminum, and polymer composite structures. This standard does not address ignitability, surface flame spread, heat release rates, smoke density, fire gas toxicity or other material fire performance limits or basic system/component design requirements which may be imposed by other documents and the Naval Technical Authority (NTA).
